Soay Sheep
We sold our entire Soay flock this season. The story can be found on our blog. We have a couple of ideas on what we want to have as animals on the farm, but as of yet have not replaced them. If you are interested in starting a Soay flock please feel free to contact us and we will put you in touch with some of the folks we have sold to over the years.
The Soay sheep in the United States descend from the primitive Soay sheep originally found on the island of Soay, in the archipelago of St Kilda, west of the outer Hebrides of Scotland. It is not known how the sheep came to the islands; the Vikings named the islands "Soay," meaning "sheep island." The sheep have survived without human help for over 1,000 years.
Ideally adults stand less than 26 inches tall at the shoulder. Rams weight between 50 and 75 lbs. and ewes between 40 and 60 lbs. Read more about Soay Sheep
